Lunch Activities

In the month of march we did a series of lunchroom activities we conducted a 5 question survey about tobacco. We asked the students 5 questions that tested there knowledge on marijuana and tobacco. When they finished the survey they received one of our coalition wristbands or buttons thats say"Be Like Me, Be Drug Free". Also we had a poster board and all the student wrote what they were above. For example my teacher put " I am above letting a student fail". I think this activity was very helpful to some students even though they dont act like it around they friends they still think about it and make the right choice.

Newsletter

In the  mouth of February the River Rouge Teen Coalition wrote there very first students newsletter on marijuana. In the newsletter we wanted to let students know what chemical they are putting in there body such as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and many other harmful chemicals. Also in our newsletter we explained what is peer pressure. Many teens do not know what peer pressure is and the signs of it, so they get pressure into doing drugs. So we educated them on how to avoid peer pressure without conflict. Lastly we listed many other things to do other then drugs such a reading, singing, hanging out with friends, and many others.

What is Teen Coalition

Teen Coalition is a group of high school students who takes time out of their day to help prevent and lower the amount of teens in our generation who smoke and do other drugs. We have coalitions at many different schools such as River Rouge, Melvindale, Southgate, and Downriver high school. Each school has a different focus. I attend River Rouge High School and our focus is marijuana. We have came up with our slogan "Be Like Me, Be Drug Free" We have almost 20 youth members and some students who have graduated still come back and help out. In this blog I will keep you updated on the teens in our the teen coalition who our trying to make a change for our community. If you attend River Rouge High School  and want to join we meet every monday after school in the lunch room
