Meetings
If you are interested in joining the River Rouge Teen Coalition(RRTC) we have meetings every monday after school at 3:45. I know thats a little late but we don't get out till 3:37 so that gives us time to go to our lockers. At the meetings we greet our new members then get down to business. We usually talk about what events we have coming up in the next week or two. Then we will talk about what we think we should do during the week and see when everyone is available. So come join our RRTC family.

Operation Good Cheer
Operation Good Cheer is when members from all the coalitions went to the airport and ,loaded presents and gift for children all around the U.S. This was such a fun event because one I got to be with my other family. Also I got to help supply the children bin need of Christmas presents. Its not fun to wake up on Christmas day and not have anything under the tree. It was so many gifts to load on trucks and planes and it was cold. The only thing that mattered to me was the kids getting there presents.

Animal Shelter
After my very long morning at the training we wasn't done yet. We devoted more of our time to the wonderful loving pets at the Dearborn Animal Shelter. The dogs our so fun to play with and honestly I am not an animal person. Me and dogs dont get along every since I was little. But the dogs at the animal shelter they are just wonderful. We walked the dogs played with them they just want a friend to take them out of there cage and run around.
Prescription Drugs
I learned so many things over the break at the The training. I knew that prescription drugs was i problem but I didn't know it was this serious. Teen having Pharming parties (also called pharm parties) which is when teens get together and bring prescription drugs. This is very dangerous you should not give anybody durgs you were prescribed. The doctor gave you the medicine according to you. Others may not have the same dosage that you have and it can make you sick. I also learn that there is a proper way to dispose of drugs. You put them in a ziplock bag and put something in the bag that makes the drugs look nasty so teens will not want to get them. Also they have a Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 28,2012

Spring Event
I'm up early ready to go to this training on prescription drugs. This should be good it will help me better understand what it does to our body. The more I learn the more we can help our friends and there friends and eventually the whole community. The more we help the more lives we save, the more addicts off the streets. Most people are not aware of what they are doing so we need to educate them. Ill tell you how the training went after...
TownHall
On March 20th the teen coalition hosted a Town Hall Meeting. We had a lot of guest speakers from the Party Patrol, Police, and Family of people who was on drugs. This was a good thing i got to learn so much about of you get checked when you get stop and they suspect you have been drinking. Also it was very emotional for the speaker who got up and talked about how they was addicted to drugs, or how they family member got killed doing drugs or in a drunk driving accident. This is serious business now teens think its OK to smoke, drink, or do other drugs when all they are doing is putting there self in harms way. We need to increase awareness in our community.

Vendor Education
Vendor Ed is when the teens go out to different vendors around the downriver area and educate them on the risk they are taking on selling tobacco to minors. Many vendors would sell tobacco to minors and not care. We go out and inform them on the state mandated signs that they need to have posted in there store also we tell them about the ticket they can get if they get caught selling to minors. This is a very important matter teens can become very sick and get lung cancer. So we try our hardest to keep tobacco away from teens..
Our Family
The coalition is more then just a group of students we have grown into a family. I been in it for 2 years and we all get alone. If you need somebody to talk to and keep you on the right track we are always there for each other. I can call them at anything we are a family that is trying to make a difference in this world. The best part is we are all working together so we never have a boring moment we always laughing and acting silly but we always get the job done. I love being in the coalition its so fun just being silly with everybody and having fun.
Peer Pressure
Teen Coalition have taught me many thing but one of the most important things is how to face peer pressure. Peer pressure refers to the influence exerted by a peers in encouraging a person to change his or her attitudes, values or behavior. Its not easy to face peer pressure when is coming at you from every direction. One thing they taught me its ok to say NO even when its one of your best friends. They might call you LAME but just walk away its ok. You have a mind of you own you can do what you want don't listen to what people say do what you want.
PhotoVoice
Over the summer of 2011 the teens went out and did a project called PhotoVoice. Photo Voice is when we go out and take picture of things around our neighborhood that will positively and negativity influence tenns to smoke, drink, or good things, from ou perspective. I took a picture of me reading a book at one of the local libraries. I took that picture to say instead of going out drinking, smoking, or selling drugs, you can go to your local library to read a book. Reading will take you so much farther in life then drugs. You can get a good job go to school and save money books are free.
